Four men have already been accepted into Glenmary's 2008-09 prenovitiate. They are: Theo Oseghale, 33, from Benin City, Nigeria; Cajetan Onubeze, 30, also from Nigeria; Clive Otienno, 26, from Nairobi, Kenya and Eric Okeyo, 25, from Kisumu, Kenya. Two additional men from the United States are in the midst of the application process.
According to Father Steve Pawelk, young men in discernment can apply to become part of Glenmary's missionary formation program before the end of June and still be included in this year's class.
"We are very happy that once again this year we will have many students to fill our House of Studies in Hartford, Ky.," says Father Steve. "This is very good news for Glenmary and for the home missions."
The prenovitiate program, which begins Aug. 15, is a year to deepen one’s mission call as a Glenmary priest or brother. During this year students take classes (two a semester) in a variety of subjects depending on what will best help fill in any gaps of previous education. Furthermore, there are apostolic work opportunities both for the local community and the local Catholic church in Hartford, Ky.
Also, students have the opportunity to learn about the Glenmary charism from the prenovitiate directors, from visits with other Glenmarians and from mission trips. This experience is shared in a prayerful environment and supportive community of others on the journey.
