Winter Challenge on the way

In communications, it is often more efficacious to show, than to tell. The winter edition of

Glenmary Challenge magazine includes a story with a familiar plot (family in need helped by Glenmary) but it is instead told in photographs, beginning with the photo of beautiful Makayla Slusher on the cover.

This photo essay by Cassie Magnotta is a brief but powerful glimpse into the people Glenmary is blessed to serve and the work that is done.

The main feature in the edition is the story of Father Les Schmidt. Inspired by the recent canonization of St. Paul VI, writer John Feister draws a connection between the sainted pope to the well-traveled missioner from Ohio, who is working on yet another major project, even in his golden years.

Christmas memories are the center of “3 Wise Missioners.” In this feature Glenmary senior members Fathers Ed Gorny, Dennis Holly, and “Pete” Peterson share bits of wisdom gained from their years celebrating this holy holiday in the missions.

The issue also includes stories about hurricane cleanup in Georgia, a long-term volunteer leading a coat drive, donors delivering needed supplies, the raising of St. Michael the Archangel from mission to parish status and more!

The Winter 2018 Glenmary Challenge will be available online December 12, until then, please enjoy the Autumn edition.

Glenmary Challenge has three goals: to educate Catholics about the U.S. home missions, to motivate young men to consider Glenmary priesthood or brotherhood and to invite all Catholics to respond to their baptismal call to be a missionary by partnering with Glenmary as financial contributors, prayer partners, professional coworkers and/or volunteers.
