Glenmary in the News: September 2018
The faithful service and hard work of Glenmary Home Missioners' priests, brothers and coworkers often causes others to take note. In an effort to share that notice with Glenmary's supporters, below are several stories relating to Glenmary that appeared in Catholic or secular publications during the month of September, 2018.
Sept. 16 & 30— The Johnson City Press and local WJHL News provided coverage of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Mission in Erwin, Tenn. The Press article previews the dedication of the new parish center. WJHL attended the dedication and its story includes a video interview with Father Tom Charters, pastor. Sept. 26 — Glenmary Father Francois Pellissier produced a guest blog for the National Catholic Reporter. He writes about his visit to the U.S. border with other priests to stand with immigrants against the practice of separating families at the border. Read more.
Sept. 19 — Glenmary president Father Chet Artysiewicz appeared on Toledo, Ohio’s Annunciation Radio program Faith with Reasons. Program manager Ron Finn called Father Chet’s enthusiasm and missionary heart “infectious.” Father Chet recalls the history of Glenmary as well as current mission efforts. Listen here.
Sept. 18 — Glenmary Father Steve Pawelk appeared on Patti’s Catholic Corner, a podcast by Patti Gutierrez. Father Steve used his recent experience with immigration raids to discuss the importance of helping immigrants have a safety plan in place. Listen here.
Sept. 10 — Jeff Hedglen leads a Texas youth camp today. This story from the North Texas Catholic reveals his inspiration came in part from Glenmary’s old Farm in Vanceburg, Ky. Read more.
Sept. 7 — The Catholic Telegraph published an early September letter by Glenmary’s Executive Council outlining how Glenmary works to protect children in its missions, and addresses what happens in the event of an allegation of abuse. Read more.
