Father Dorsey grows tastiest tomato

Posted: 8/24/2017

Glenmary Father Dan Dorsey (at left in photo) won the third annual "Tastiest Glenmary Tomato Contest" Aug. 24 at Glenmary's residence.

The informal face-off between gardening Glenmarians was judged by Glenmary residence staff. As winner, Father Dan gains possession of the coveted "Bob the Tomato" plush trophy. Bob the Tomato is a character from the popular children's show "Veggietales."

Brother David Henley, winner of the inaugural contest in 2015, finished as runner up. Last year's champion, Father Don Tranel did not enter the competition.

At the Glenmary residence in Fairfield, Ohio, near Cincinnati many priests and brothers dabble in growing fresh produce. Elsewhere on the Glenmary headquarters property, co-workers do the same in a community garden.

In addition to growing food, many Glenmarians and co-workers at the headquarters participate in recycling and composting programs as a way to care for God's creation.
