Glenmary Challenge Receives Two Catholic Press Association Awards
Glenmary Challenge, the quarterly magazine of Glenmary Home Missioners, garnered two awards at the Catholic Press Assocation's annual convention held June 22-24 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Father George Mathis was honored with a second place award in the category of "Best Essay, Mission Magazines" for his remembrance of Father John Otterbacher, A Missioner and Friend. The article was published in the Spring 2010 issue of the magazine. Judges write that although the writer mourns the passing of a friend, he "skirts descending into maudlin tones and instead, honor a memory with direct, warm prose."
Brother David Henley and Father John Rausch received a third place award in the "Best Analysis Writing" category for their Spring 2010 article on immigration reform. The judges commented that the authors gave a politically divisive issue a "calm, objective treament that not only informs the reader but encourages action."
