Gospel Harmony Quartet CD

Glenmary Home Missioners Gospel Harmony QuartetFather William Howard Bishop founded Glenmary Home Missioners in 1939 to establish Catholic mission communities in "neglected rural areas" of the United States where before there was no effective Catholic presence.

Father Bishop and his early missioners—priests and brothers—forged a unique style of evangelization to accomplish this goal. "Equipped with a tent, a portable altar and a portable organ," these missioners spent their summers tent-preaching throughout the South and Appalachia.

Glenmary priests, brothers and students formed the Gospel Harmony Quartet to perform at these tent meetings. Their blend of traditional Catholic hymns and Bible Belt favorites both entertained the local people and introduced them to the Catholic faith.

The CD includes the following hymns:

  • Sweet Sacrament
  • Oh Master, Let Me Walk With Thee
  • Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow
  •  In the Sweet By and By
  •  Oh Lord I Am Not Worthy
  • When Israel Was in Egypt's Land
  • Jesus, Lover of My Soul
  • Just as I Am Without One Plea
  • Standing in the Need of Prayer
  • Oh God of Loveliness
  • In the Garden
  • This World Is Not My Home
  • Now the Day Is Over
  • Nearer My God to Thee
  • Brighten the Corner Where You Are
  • When I Come to the End of the Road
  • Farther Along
  • Abide With Me
  • Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
