XII. Jesus Dies on the Cross

Comment By the Artist:
Dogwood trees are plentiful around Lewis County.
Its blossom seems logical for this station if you know the legend:
The cross was made from a dogwood tree.
This distressed the tree.
Jesus, sensing its pity, declared that never again
would it grow large enough to be used for crucifixions,
but its blossoms would be in the form of a cross.
The outer edge of each petal would contain nail prints, and
the center would be stained as if by a crown of thorns.
Invitation to Prayer/Reflection:
Lord, give me the grace of tolerance!
