| An Update From the Director
of Glenmary's Volunteer Office
September 2008
Vanceburg View for the end of summerThis summer has been a busy one at the Glenmary Farm with a lot of work done in the community of Lewis County. I wanted to pass along to y’all what has happened on “The Farm” since last I wrote you.
Glenmary Farm gets a donated four-wheel drive truck.
The Glenmary Farm has not had a four-wheel drive vehicle since the good old trusty Jeep Cherokee was sold in 2005. So needless to say we were in the market for a truck to help with pulling vans out when they get stuck, delivering firewood, construction jobs and to drive the winter roads here in Kentucky.
In July, a generous Glenmary donor donated an extended cab, four-wheel drive Dodge 2500 truck to the Glenmary Farm. This donation was just in the nick of time as the amount of work we have been doing in the community has increased in this time of economic uncertainty. We have already started using the truck to transport firewood, help move those in need and of course at the construction site.
Wendy Nisiewicz ends her term as a Glenmary Farm Manager
After a year of mission work, Wendy Nisiewicz has left the Glenmary Farm and returned to Milwaukee, Wis., where she is currently substitute teaching before she goes back to get her masters degree.
Wendy was an excellent Farm Manager who put the needs of the community and the groups in front of her own. As a Farm Manager she never stopped working to help those we serve in the county. From delivering firewood and working with Gina to working at People’s Self Help Housing to organizing the clothes at the Lending a Helping Hand Food Pantry, Wendy compassion and energy was endless. She was a true servant to all this last year.
Glenmary Farm has a new cat
Earlier this summer I reported that Tay just up and left the Glenmary Farm. So the Glenmary Farm was down to one cat, Sheba the mighty mouse killer. Well a kitten somehow got into the pantry one day and after days of chasing was caught by a volunteer group who brought it back to the Glenmary Farm. Thus the Glenmary Farm had its second cat which we have named George, after George Calvert who runs the Lending a Helping Hand Food Pantry.
Family Week
Family week returned to the Glenmary Farm this summer with the Meade, Daly, Leon, and Johnson Families participatin. It was a truly great week with a lot of good work done in the community of Lewis County and at the Glenmary Farm itself. Next year’s Family week will be from July 12-18, 2009. If you are interesting in serving as a family for those dates please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me
