Danny is happily making out his Christmas list adding more
and more toys and games -when his Guardian Angel, Theophane, suddenly
appears. It is very obvious to Theo that Danny has forgotten the
real meaning of Christmas. Together they review practices like the
Advent wreath, reciting daily prayers at home, and doing daily acts
of kindness. They also recall many of the great Scripture characters
from the Advent readings: Mary and Joseph, Elizabeth and Zachary,
Isaiah and John the Baptist.

and the powerless to act as social critics. Father Virgilio Elizondo
is the facilitator in the story scape segments of the
film. In this role, he connects the Guadalupe narrative to the dynamics
at work between the powerless and the powerful in any society.

This is the story of a Mexican peasant named Juan Diego, who in
1531, had a vision of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, near Guadalupe.
This is a story of faith, of heavenly tenderness, of a people oppressed
by conquerors but honored by God.

Part of the Hispanic Ministry Lectures Series, this
fascinating lecture re-casts the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe
for our times. Father Virgilio Elizondo begins by exploring the
context in which the story was first narrated, in the Nahuatl
language. He explains with great clarity the relationship of the
Guadalupe event to our Biblical tradition.

The popular full length film made in Mexico on our Lady of Guadalupe
shows in detail the historical setting in which the appearance of
Our Lady took place. It begins with scenes of the Aztec Empire in
the 16th Century, then shows the tension of the Spanish Conquest
and the conversion of some of the native people to the Catholic
religion (which was the requirement for being a subject of Spain),
and ends with the story of Juan Diegos faith in our Lady of Guadalupe,
the Miracle of the Roses, and the conversion of many
people to Our Ladys message.
