Christian Hospitality: A Handbook for Parishes with companion
video: All Are Welcome. By Evangelization Ministry of the Archdiocese
of Louisville, Ky. (Revised 2002)
Beginning
with an essay entitled "Why Be Hospitable?," this book
and the video provide background and activities for parish groups
wanting to assess the hospitality index of their church. The handbook
blends information about making church facilities accessible to
all people with ideas and activities that assess the attitudes and
intangible signals that churches give to visitors. Two chapters
are written about subjects that I have not found in other resources:
intercultural hospitality and liturgical hospitality.
I have used parts of this book in parish workshops
and have found the exercises effective in heightening parishioner
awareness of how visitors may perceive their church.
It's a good way to think about evangelization
with parish groups!
