| In the Footsteps of Jesus: Catholic Social Teaching Today. Publication No. 5-444 (30 minute video) by U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, USCCB Publishing Washington DC. To order call 800-235-8722 "How is God calling you to make a difference in the world?" is the central question of this video. There are two sections. The first section introduces Catholic Social Teaching - what it is and how it has come to play such a key role in the 20th century. This section also emphasizes the importance of developing an "adult" conscience.
The second section takes the seven themes presented in the first section and gives a living, modern example for each one. It is these people and their stories that breathe life into each abstract theme. There are a few questions in the discussion guide. However, a resource manual with lesson plans for different parish groups is being published this summer. If I were using this video with a group, I would use the second section with the stories first, helping others to reflect on their experience of these seven themes.
This is a concise, engaging introduction to the teachings of the Catholic Church in the area of social justice and how they are incarnated in the lives of those who walk in Jesus' footsteps.
