Evangelization
Teams in the Making: A Catholic Parish Manual, by Dorothy Hulburt
and Priscilla Lemire, RJM. Jeremiah Press, 2000. $9.95. (Order from
NCCE at 1-888-786-NCCE.)
Don't
let the word teams in the title be an obstacle. The process
and content of the six sessions can be utilized by any parish group,
including Parish Councils.
The authors, both
veteran leaders in forming Cathoic evangelizers, present a solid,
refreshing, participative process. Using excerpts from Evangelization
in the Modern World, Go Make Desiciples of All Nations,
The Catholic Catechism and the lives of the saints, each
session contains information, personal reflection, small-group sharing
and prayer.
In my opinion, the
experience segment of the second session can be an effective tool
for evangelizers. A pencil and paper survery is designed to assist
in reflecting on how one usually relates to people. From
this survey, each person fills in a grid. This grid categorizes
the information into six "styles of evangelizing": servant,
invitational, relational, witness, intellectural and challenge.
Each stule is fleshed out with a scritpural portrait; the strength
and the awareness needed by those who prefer to evangelize in this
this way.
And excellent tool
to broaden the vision of how catholic evangelization is hapening!
