Commission on Evangelization

Reflection/Discussion Starters
Seven “BE – attitudes” for Evangelizing Together

While we recognize that the Catholic approach to evangelization is different from other Christian churches, we see a value in working together to evangelize whenever feasible. Here are seven “BE - attitudes.. You may want to add others from your own local experience.

• BE willing to listen and seek to understand the faith experiences of others.

• BE willing to share your own faith in Jesus and your values.

• BE willing to ask clarifying questions.

• BE willing to allow each other the freedom to disagree on some issues as you try to cooperate on others.

• BE willing to begin with small, relatively low-risk projects.

• BE willing to eventually confront the difficult, high-risk issues.

• BE clear about the group’s long-term and short-term goals for each project.

Most importantly, PRAY TOGETHER—for evangelizing ecumenically is a long-term process!
