People's
Yearnings
A study by Margaret
Ann Crain and Jack Seymour from Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, Evanston,
Ill., identified these eight things for which people today yearn:
1. meaningful work consistent with faith
2. connection
with grace and spirit
3. meaning and
healing in personal crisis
4. ways to address
suffering and evil
5. certainty and
order
6. ways to be
known and accepted\
7. ways to build
community and bridge differences
8. hope.
Consider:
-
Does
this list connect with your experience ? Why or why not?
-
For
your locality, would you add, delete or change any items?
- In what ways
do you or your parish communicate that the Catholic Church
provides ways
to satisfy these yearnings? Who is your audience?
- Is
there one other person with whom you could discuss this list?
