Father Frank Schenk

Father Frank Schenk with young people in Idabel, Okla., in 1965.

Glenmary mission ministry has led Father Frank Schenk throughout Mission Land, USA—and beyond. Father Frank, 86, made his first oath to Glenmary in 1951 and was ordained in 1954 after attending St. Gregory, St. Mary and Our Lady of the Fields seminaries, all in Cincinnati. In the late 1960s he was one of the first Glenmarians to attend Spanish language school in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

The Indiana native pastored missions in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Georgia and Kentucky as well as in Colombia, South America, where he served for 13 years heading up an effort to establish a home mission society similar to Glenmary. He received senior member status in 1991 and spent eight years in Warren, Ark., before moving to Glenmary’s mission in Plunketville, Okla., where he now resides and continues to reach out to the unchurched in the area.
