Father Raymond Orlett


Father Ray Orlett in 1980 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

 

Father Raymond Orlett, 75, grew up in a Glenmary mission in Pond Creek, Ohio, and chose Glenmary priesthood as a vocation in 1951 when he made his first oath. Ordained in 1953 after attending seminary in Cincinnati, he also received his licentiate degree in theology from Catholic University and a licentiate in biblical studies from the Biblical Institute in Rome. He was a professor, vice rector, librarian and spiritual director at Our Lady of the Fields Seminary and served in Glenmary leadership before receiving his first pastorate in 1971 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He went on to serve missions in Ohio and Mississippi.

He received senior member status in 1992 and resides in Kingsport, Tenn., where he designs and weaves items for liturgical use.
