A photo taken in 1980, post-renovation, of the farmhouse on the property where Glenmary moved its Cincinnati Headquarters in the early 1970s. The farmhouse became the site of Glenmary's novitiate at that time and Father Wil Steinbacher was the director. "The farmhouse was old. It needed re-painting," says Lou Clear. "The Glenmary brothers did all the re-hab work."

When Glenmary started planning to build the residence on the Headquarters property Father Wil Steinbacher invited Ted Clear to a meeting with Father Bob Berson, then president of Glenmary. Father Bob, knowing that Ted worked in construction, asked him if he would help them put the project together. "We'd like to have the brothers do most of the work," Father Bob said, "Could you manage to get us started?" |

A new St. Anthony Church, left, in Norton, Va., was built by Glenmary brothers beside the original church building on right. Ted and his business partner at the time put stucco on the exterior of the new church.

Brothers Paul Wihelm (front) and Terry O'Rourke often had the need or use for construction materials for the many projects they did over the years from "skirting trailers" in Appalachia in an effort to improve the insulation of people's homes, to housing projects in Dahlonega, Ga. In this photo, Brothers Paul and Terry are building houses in Aberdeen, Miss. |
