Land purchased in North Carolina for Glenmary mission
[North Carolina] The Diocese of Raleigh has purchased 20 acres of land where the Catholic Community of Bertie County hopes to one day build.
The community was called together by Father Mike Langell in 2004. Since then, the mission’s membership has grown and has established itself firmly in the local community.
Although the new building won’t become a reality for the small mission in the near future, the community is patient and will continue its relationship with the local Methodist church that has shared its worship space with the Catholic congregation since 2004.
The Bertie County Catholic Community is one of the most diverse Catholic congregations in eastern North Carolina.
The story above first appeared in the Autumn 2008 Glenmary Challenge.
