Mission and Migration: Celebrating the Richness in the Body of Christ
Father Neil Pezzulo sees his role as a missioner in Arkansas as working to help meet the needs he finds there. One of those overwhelming needs is ministering to the immigrant community.

Ripley Mission Has the Christmas Float to Beat
Sister Kate Regan and the members of Glenmary's mission in Ripley, Miss., take part in the area's annual Christmas parade and produced the award-winning Christmas float for the past five years. The parade is just one of the ways they let the local community know "we're here."

Prison Pastoral Letter From the Bishops of the South Released
The Southern bishops have completed the series of eight pastoral letters that focus on the criminal justice process, especially the rise of for-profit prisons. The first was released in 2002. Since that time, seven more statements have been issued dealing with issues such as restorative justice, juvenile justice and prison conditions.

Statement of Accountability, Annual Report Available
An updated Statement of Accountability is posted, a four-page annual Report to Donors can be downloaded and a 20-page Stewardship Report can be requested.

Missions Struggle After ICE Storm
One year ago in Stillmore, Ga., agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rounded up, arrested, placed on windowless buses, and eventually deported some 150 men, many of whom worked at the local poultry processing plant. Father John Brown continues to minister to those still living in the area.

Brother Larry Jochim Dies
Brother Larry Jochim, 76, died at Mercy Fairfield Hospital on Sept. 27. As a member of the Brothers' Building Crew, Brother Larry spent his over 55 years as a home missioner buiding churches, halls—and community.

New Vacation Bible School Program Added to Mission Education Materials
The second of two Vacation Bible School Programs for children age 4-12 has just been released. The programs are part of Glenmary's Educate and Inspire series of home mission education materials. A Confirmation packet and age appropriate posters and prayer cards for grades 1-8 are also available.

People's Self-Help Housing marked a milestone this summer: 25 years of providing safe, affordable housing to those living in Lewis County, Ky. And there's still more work to be done!

Autumn 2007 Glenmary Challenge
Interfaith Statement Calls or End to Mountaintop Removal
Twenty interfaith leaders from across the United States took part in a two-day Mountaintop Removal Tour led by Glenmary Father John Rausch. As a result, the leaders pledged lifestyle changes to reduce demand for cheap electricity.

Two Alabama Missions Returned to Diocese for Continued Pastoral Care
Two Glenmary missions in Fayette and Winfield, Ala., were returned to the Diocese of Birmingham for continued pastoral care in July. Father Mike Kerin, the last Glenmary pastor of the missions, recounted the many gifts of the Alabama communities in one of his last homilies.

New Glenmary Leadership Elected
Members of Glenmary Home Missioners re-elected Father Dan Dorsey to a four-year term as president during the community's General Chapter held in June. In addition, the missioners set goals and made plans for the coming four years and beyond!

Susan Lambert has worked for Glenmary for over 30 years and as Glenmary's planned giving officer has found her dream job. Most especially she enjoys meeting donors face-to-face and sharing with them Glenmary's mission and ministry.

Aspirants in Mexico

Father Steve Pawelk spent two weeks this May in Mexico meeting with prospective students. Several young men will be part of a Glenmary aspirancy program set to begin in Mexico this August. Travel with Father Steve by viewing a slide show of his trip.

Father Bill Smith, 85, died April 25, 2007 in Cincinnati. His gentle nature was key to his success in over 60 years of home mission ministry.

'Dean of Missioners' Dead at 86
Glenmary Father Joe Dean died on Feb. 14 from an apparent heart attack. But his legacy as a home missioner will live on.

New Glenmary Mission-Ed Materials Now Available!

'Caring Close to Home' (a Vacation Bible School program) and 'Sacrament of Mission' (a Confirmation supplement) are part of Glenmary's Educate & Inspire series. Age-appropriate posters and prayer cards were released earlier in time for Mission Month 2006.

On July 1, 2006, Father Don Tranel became the first resident pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Booneville, Ark. After his first few months at the Logan County mission, he says he has found that mission members truly treasure their "priceless gift of faith."
