(Sept. 2006) A major commitment of Glenmary is to call young people into mission and to raise awareness of mission need here in the United States. That’s the goal of the new Educate & Inspire: Home Mission Materials From Glenmary, a joint project of Glenmary priests, brothers and sisters. The first materials have been released in time for Mission Month (October) of this year.
Samples of two posters (grades 1-4 and grades 5-8) and two poster-related prayer cards (also grades 1-4 and grades 5-6) were sent to the principal in every U.S. Catholic grade school and to the pastor/DRE in every parish at the end of August.
“We hope our new materials, geared for use in Catholic schools and parish religious education programs, will help you call your students into a deeper sense of mission—right here at home,” said Glenmary Home Missioners president Father Dan Dorsey and Glenmary Sisters president Sister Pat Leighton in a cover letter.
Items currently available include these two posters and prayer cards. The back of each poster contains a note to teachers and reproducible prayer and activity suggestions that reinforce the poster’s message.
Each of these items can be viewed and ordered online.
In January additional items in the series will be available: two week-long Vacation Bible School programs; a five-part supplement to confirmation preparation; and a spiritual guide to enhance high school mission trips and service experiences.
All materials have been developed and reviewed by teachers and religious educators.
