Glenmary Father Tom Charters Arrives in West Virginia
Assumes pastorate of Logan, Chapmanville, Man missions
CINCINNATI—Father Tom Charters assumed the pastorate of Glenmary’s St. Francis of Assisi (Logan), St. Barbara (Chapmanville) and St. Edmund (Man), missions on June 15. For the past four years, Father Tom has served as the director of Glenmary’s novitiate headquartered in Hartford, Ky.
Glenmary is a society of Catholic priests and brothers who, along with coworkers, establish the Catholic Church in rural regions of the United States. Currently, Glenmary staffs over 50 missions and ministries in 14 dioceses.
Prior to his recent vocation work, as well as three years as a vocation counselor in the 1980s, Father Tom served as pastor of Glenmary missions in Kentucky, Virginia, Arkansas and Texas. A native of Dayton, Ohio, he entered Glenmary in 1967 and professed his First Oath in 1972. He was ordained in 1975.
Glenmary has ministered in this area of West Virginia since 2003 when Father Dave Glockner and Brother Mike Springer arrived. Father Dave has become the novice director for Glenmary. Brother Mike will continue his outreach ministry based in Chapmanville.
